The USA should watch out for Asamoah Gyan, the player who scored the earliest goal at the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany.

Ghana's Asamoah Gyan celebrates in style.Ghana’s key player Gyan may not be able to compare his achievements to those of many other great footballers around the planet. However, the Stade Rennes striker is confident of helping his team to deliver when it matters the most.

Already, Asamoah Gyan can boast of a distinctive record which helped Ghana qualify into the Round of 16. He has been the author of Ghana’s only two goals. Oh, and he got them through the penalty spot. So can’t Asamoah Gyan or any other Ghanaian player score a single goal from open play?

Then if this is the case, if the Black Stars should only thank luck for offering them two spot kicks on their road to the Last 16, why is Gyan so positive about a victory against USA on Saturday?

Bob Bradley’s men constitute a great team that plays entertaining football – full of runs and energy that have been possible through the players’ physical strength. Asamoah Gyan is very much aware of the American’s threat. However, his confidence has been set on his belief in his own team mates.

“We too have good players. That’s why we have so much self-confidence. We are on the right track. The fact that we are representing our continent makes us very happy.”

In the 2006 World Cup, Ghana naively bowed out in the Round of 16 following a controversial 3-0 loss to Brazil. Asamoah Gyan received a red card on that frustrating day. After four years of maturation, the French-based striker is ready to re-write history for the Black Stars. See Match Review
