Former France international midfielder Paul Pogba was in the stands as Los Angeles FC fell to a second straight defeat in Major League Soccer with a 1-0 loss on Saturday to Austin FC.
About Toronto FC
Toronto Football Club, more commonly known as Toronto FC, is a professional soccer team based in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Founded on October 27, 2005, the club joined Major League Soccer (MLS) in 2007 as an expansion team, becoming the first Canadian-based franchise in the U.S. top flight. The club, nicknamed TFC, plays its home games at BMO Field and competes in the Eastern Conference.
TFC also participates in the Canadian Championship, winning four out of the first five editions of this tournament. In 2017, the Toronto-based outfit made history by lifting the MLS Cup, Supporters’ Shield, and the Canadian Championship titles, thus becoming the first-ever Major League Soccer club to win the domestic treble.
BMO Field has been the home to several well-known MLS players. This includes Sebastian Giovinco, who joined from Juventus in 2015, scoring 68 goals and assisting another 52 before leaving the MLS altogether in 2019. Additionally, former USMNT players Michael Bradley and Jozy Altidore are key members of TFC folklore, having helped the club to their famous treble in 2017.
Toronto FC boasts a heated rivalry with fellow Canadian-based MLS franchise CF Montreal. This is referred to as the Canadian Classique, the 401 Derby, or the Two Solitudes Derby. The club also regularly trades blows with the Vancouver Whitecaps for the Voyageurs Cup, the trophy awarded to the Canadian Championship winners.
