The Gunners failed to meet the Chilean ace's demands, but all hope is not lost yet.

The future of Alexis Sanchez is a worrying issue for Arsenal, as their star attacker enters the final 18 months of his contract. The club are keen on agreeing on a new deal, but the player’s wage demand remains a tricky point for the frugal club.

The player reportedly wants £250,000 per week, a huge increase from the £130,000-per-week wage he is currently on. The Gunners have offered the Chilean a better deal, but it was not what the player was hoping for.

According to the Daily Mail, the north London outfit tabled a £180,000-per-week salary package – totaling to £9.3m per year – for the 27-year-old. Sanchez, however, swiftly knocked back the offer.

Alexis is a player in demand, and is even wanted in China for £400,000 per week. The player’s representatives are reportedly using that offer from far-east Asia to negotiate a substantial raise. Nonetheless, the Daily Mail write that Arsenal are “hopeful” of reaching an agreement, as talks are “ongoing”.

It’s not all gloomy for the Emirates Stadium side. RMC Sport recently wrote that French trio Olivier Giroud, Francis Coquelin, and Laurent Koscielny are close to agreeing new deals. Furthermore, Arsenal are confident that Mesut Ozil – another contract rebel – will put pen to paper on an extension.
