The second match of the Round of 16 stage will feature Colombia and Uruguay as the two South American teams go head to head at the Estádio Maracanã on Saturday, the 28th of June.

Uruguay will face a stiff Colombia challenge as they aim to make it to the Quarter-Final of the World Cup for a second successive time. Their task has been made more difficult with Liverpool star Luis Suarez set to miss out after receiving a four month ban for biting Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini.

Suarez’s absence will be a major blow to Óscar Tabárez’s side who have been depending heavily on the former Ajax man to carry the goal scoring burden something the 27 year old has been doing with aplomb.
Los Charrúas struggled in their opening fixture when they suffered a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Costa Rica, however in their next match which marked the return of Suarez Uruguay cruised to a 2-0 win against England thanks to a wonderful brace from Suarez.

However according to Colombian defender Juan Camilo Zuniga there is much more to Uruguay than just Luis Suarez and they will be difficult to beat despite the star player’s absence.

"We know that even without Suarez they have players who can make the difference," Zuniga said.

"They have have forwards who play very well. When they have the ball and you give them a little bit of space they can take advantage."

"We know it's going to be a very difficult game," he said.

"They won their last game against Italy and they put in a lot of courage. They are the type of team that when they need to win they win."

"However, we are preparing well for this game. We know it's not easy but we go on. We are thinking only about working well in these next two or three days ahead of this important game."

Uruguay will be hoping PSG star Edinson Cavani can produce the goods in Suarez’s absence. However the 27 year old has so far failed to produce the kind of performances which were expected from him and will have to step up for his team.

Uruguay must however not feel so let down without their main man and must take a lesson from their opponents on Saturday. Colombia were dealt with a huge blow when their star Radamel Falcao was ruled out of the World Cup. However Los Cafeteros have been unfazed by his absence and have been one of the standout teams of the group stages. José Pékerman’s side will be brimming with confidence after managing to win all their three matches in the opening stage and will be hoping to carry their good form in the latter stages.

Colombia have a number of star players who are capable of making a difference. Juan Cuadrado and James Rodriguez in particular have been in spectacular form and will be the key men for Colombia. Apart from the combative duo Colombia also have a few other players who could really make a name for themselves including Jackson Martinez who after not starting the first two matches delivered a fine performance against Japan which he rounded off with a wonderful brace. Fredy Guarín is another player who has not been given many opportunities to prove his worth in the World Cup and will be pushing for a starting berth after completing 90 minutes in the 4-1 victory against Japan.
