SBS Radio 3 History, Coverage, Features
SBS Radio is a service provided by the Special Broadcasting Service which was first launched on June 9, 1975. It is owned and operated by the Special Broadcasting System. The initial goal by these radio stations was to inform ethnic communities about some changes in the country’s healthcare system, but it eventually expanded into a tool used to entertain, educate, and inform Australians, especially those that came from non-English-speaking countries.
SBS Radio 3 is one of three main radio services provided by this company. It was launched on April 29, 2013 on digital radio, meaning it is not available on the AM or FM band. Added to its content in English, SBS Radio 3 used to broadcast shows in twelve different languages: African, Cook Islands Maori, Danish, Fijian, Kannada, Latvian, Lithuanian, Malay, Maori, Norwegian, Swedish, and Tongan. Most foreign-language shows include a mix of general information, community information, music, and sport.
