In similar fashion to Barcelona’s penalization, the Madrid duo will be sanctioned by football's world governing body for the illegal signing of underage players.

La Liga giants Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid look set to be joining rivals Barcelona on the transfer ban list after allegedly signing underage players illegally. This is according to Jose Ramon de la Morena of radio station Cadena Ser (per Bleacher Report), who broke the news.

The heavyweights from the Spanish capital could be facing a two-window ban, with Marca reporting both sides “will be immediately banned from all transfer activity for the next two windows”.

"After much deliberation, football's international body has reached the conclusion that both Madrilenian clubs are guilty of continually breaking the rules regarding the signing of underage players," the Spanish publication stated.

This means Carlo Ancelotti and Diego Simeone will not be able to sign new players until the summer of 2016, which will obviously be a huge blow to their aspirations of Liga BBVA and Champions League domination.

This comes eight months after the Blaugrana were smacked with a similar sanction after breaking football’s world governing body’s regulations regarding the signing of minors, one which rendered them inactive in the January transfer market. This violation also resulted in a two-window transfer ban, which the Catalan side appealed to CAS and lost.

Of course, a transfer ban to Los Blancos and Los Rojiblancos will cause a ripple effect in the market. Real Madrid, who are rumored to be keen on shipping off captain Iker Casillas, will not be able to sign Man United goalie David De Gea.

Eden Hazard, winner of this season’s PFA Player of the Year award, will not be able to follow suit of the previous two winners and move to Spain, whilst Gareth Bale, linked with Chelsea and the Red Devils, will now most definitely remain at the Bernabeu.

Marco Reus, linked with both Madrid sides at one point, appears destined for the English Premier League as none of La Liga’s top three sides will be able to sign him this summer.

Atletico, who held hopes of luring former star Felipe Luis, Edinson Cavani, and Arsenal’s Santi Cazorla to the Vicente Calderon, will have to do with their current squad until the summer of 2016.
