Greece and Ivory Coast will lock horns in a Group C fixture at the Estádio Castelão on Tuesday, the 24th of June.

A draw might be enough for Ivory Coast to move to the next round of the tournament, but Greece will need to register a win on Tuesday if they are to have any chance of claiming a Round of 16 berth. Colombia is the only side in the group which has already qualified for the next round having won both their matches.

Ivory Coast on the other hand  have managed just a single victory after losing to Colombia in their second match and will need maximum points to ensure that neither of Greece or Japan clinch second place. Ivory Coast manager Sabri Lamouchi is determined to create history with the Elephants having never made it past the group stage of the competition. This time around Lamouchi hopes that his team can surpass their predecessors.

"We mustn't get carried away. We are fully focused on the match,” Sabri said.

"We know that victory would allow us to write our names in Ivorian football history.

"That would be a great achievement and the players are well aware of that, so it would be pointless to try to heap extra pressure on them.

"We mustn't forget that Ivory Coast have only played eight World Cup games, which is nothing.

"There are no guarantees we will make it through. We have to come up with the goods on the pitch against a Greece team with a very solid backline. We are preparing with this in mind."

Greece on the other hand will be well aware that they have no room for conceding errors as they hope to make it to the next round of the World Cup for the first time in their history. Fernando Santos’ men will have to do their part by scoring a win and hope for Colombia to do them a favor as the group leaders go against Japan.

Greece are yet to register a goal in the current edition of the World Cup after losing 3-0 to Colombia in their opening fixture and then hanging on to a 0-0 draw in their second match against Japan. Greece captain Konstantinos Katsouranis will serve a one match ban after receiving a red card in the match against Japan. Veteran midfielder Giorgos Karagounis is set to replace his captain in what could be his last game for the international side.

Greece will be hoping that star player Kostas Mitroglou can produce the goods for their side. The Fulham striker definitely has the qualities to produce a star performance for a Greek team which is currently experiencing a goal drought.

Greece’s world cup record has been hardly impressive with the Euro 2004 champions having failed to score in seven of their eight world cup games, whereas their clean sheet against Japan last time out was only their first at a World Cup.

Yaya Toure is expected to feature during Tuesday’s clash after mourning the sad demise of his brother last Friday. But the Man City man is set to occupy a more defensive role which means that Salomon Kalou might be drafted in the squad to play a more advanced role.
