Last season’s UEFA Champions League runners-up, Bayern Munich, have decided to extend the contract of Coach Louis van Gaal. Remarkably, this new deal comes at quite a strange time…
The German champions lost 2-1 to Mainz last weekend. Things aren’t going well for Bayern Munich who are 9th and 10 points off the top of the German Bundesliga table. Although some might have started to doubt the credibility of Coach Louis van Gaal, the club has had other ideas as Rummenigge explained:

“I always prefer to do things you might not expect. Anyone could renew a contract after a victory.

“But, even after the defeat to Mainz, we wanted to extend the coach’s contract. I think this is a good sign for the public.”

The deal should keep the illustrious manager at Hollywood FC until June 30, 2012. Team doctor Hans-Wilhelm Mueller-Wohlfahrt and assistant coach Andries Jonker also had their contract extended. In the meantime, Louis van Gaal has to help Bayern Munich bounce back from their defeat to Mainz.

Bayern face Basel away from home on Tuesday night as the UEFA Champions League resumes. After successfully defeating AS Roma on the first match-day of the competition, the Germans are expected to record their second victory in Europe this season.
