The Campeonato Paulista A1, simply referred to as Campeonato Paulista or Paulistao, is a club football tournament from Brazil, which is played by teams from the state of Sao Paulo. It is the top-tier category of football in the state, with four tiers of professional football in its pyramid. It is the oldest league in the country, being established in 1902 and acknowledged as a professional tournament since 1933.
The competition works under a promotion-relegation system, with two teams being relegated to Serie A2 at the end of the initial stage. The competition sees teams divided into four groups of four teams, with all teams playing 12 matches against the members of the other groups. Once all games have been disputed, the top teams in each group reach the quarterfinals.
Once in the KO stage, the quarterfinals and the semifinals are played in a single-game knockout format. The title match sees the clubs playing a two-leg tie, with the team with the best performance throughout the tournament getting to host the return leg.
The tournament has also become known across the world for hosting four of the most popular Brazilian teams: Corinthians, Palmeiras, Santos, and Sao Paulo. These teams have combined to win over 95 editions in Campeonato Paulista A1 history.
Coverage of this competition in Brazil has been awarded to TNT Brazil, with streaming platforms TNT Go and HBO Max also covering the tournament on-the-go until 2024.
