About 3. Liga
3. Liga History, Format, Organization, Media Coverage
The 3. Liga is Germany’s third division league. Founded in 2008, the competition replaced the Regionalliga – now the country's fourth division – as the third-tier championship in the German football league system. The 3. Liga operates on a system of promotion and relegation with 2. Bundesliga and Regionalliga. The top two clubs earn automatic promotion to the second division. This is the highest division reserve teams are permitted to participate in, which means B sides cannot get promoted out of this league.
