More than half-a-month has passed since Primeira Liga football in Portugal paused for the festive season. The much-anticipated restart of the competition happens this weekend with FC Porto playing on Saturday and Benfica on Sunday.
The fact that Porto have a game in hand over Benfica increases the amount of thrill in the competition. The Dragons are only three points behind the Eagles.
In another interesting angle, have Sporting Lisbon freed themselves from the miserable run that saw them finish 2012 in 10th position? The Lions cannot even count three victories in the Portuguese Primeira Liga this season. Things could get easier or tougher for Sporting this Sunday against a Paços de Ferreira team determined to catch up third-placed Sporting Braga.
