Manchester United will go against Swansea City in the opening fixture of the Barclays Premier League at the Old Trafford on Saturday, the 16th of August.

The Dutch manager will make his much awaited Premier League bow as he looks to rekindle pride at the Old Trafford. The Red Devils suffered last season when they slumped to their worst ever campaign in a long time finishing seventh in the league thereby failing to qualify for either of the European competitions.

However under the tutelage of Van Gaal United have looked a promising side and won all their preseason matches which ended with a 2-1 victory over Spanish side Valencia.

Van Gaal will now be hoping his side can keep the momentum going as he looks to gain supremacy in a league which is as competitive as ever.

Despite United’s excellent recent form, their new manager has demanded the Old Trafford faithful to have patience as there is still a lot of work to be done.

"Old Trafford was fantastic. I come on the pitch and they are shouting and screaming your name," Van Gaal said.

"It is also a big pressure as they expect a lot and you cannot change everything in three or four weeks.”

"The players cannot change either so we have to wait and see and develop and we need time.”

"But we have won every game until now and that is fantastic when you see our opponents so we have great confidence for Swansea City."

Van Gaal is set to implement a new 3-4-1-2 system at his new club, the same philosophy he previously used during the World Cup campaign with Netherlands. New signing Ander Herrera is expected to provide stability in the middle of the park along with his likely partner Darren Fletcher. Juan Mata will be playing in the number 10 role, with newly appointed captain Wayne Rooney expected to lead the line alongside Danny Welbeck in Robin Van Persie’s absence.

Man United however are a bit short at the back with Rafael, Antonio Valencia and Luke Shaw all unlikely to feature. Centre back Jonny Evans is also a doubt for the match.

Swansea on the other hand are poised to hand a Premier League debut to Bafetimbi Gomis whereas the returning Gylfi Sigurðsson is also expected to start.
