Sportsnet East history, coverage, features
Sportsnet East is one of four regional feeds owned and operated by Sportsnet, Rogers Sports & Media’s English-language Canadian sports network. This feed, along with its sister platforms, broadcasts region-specific content tailored to their respective markets.Sportsnet East serves as the primary feed for Eastern Ontario, Quebec, and Atlantic Canada. It once held the regional broadcast rights for the NHL's Ottawa Senators but lost those rights to TSN in 2014. Sportsnet East ultimately replaced that with coverage of the Montreal Canadiens, securing English-language regional rights to this NHL side later that same year in a three-year deal running until 2016-17.
While Sportsnet East and the network’s other regional feeds provide national programming, regional content is subject to blackout outside their designated markets.
All four of Sportsnet's regional feeds are available in both standard definition and HD, with Canada’s digital television services able to carry every feed. However, out-of-market Sportsnet feed content may still be subject to blackout due to regional broadcast rights, particularly in the case of NHL games. This capability to receive all four regional feeds is not included in analogue cable packages, which only feature the local feed.
Additionally, Sportsnet East can be streamed on Sportsnet+, the network’s dedicated streaming service. Formerly known as Sportsnet Now, the platform introduced a subscription tier that allows users to stream out-of-market NHL games involving Canadian teams.
