About League One
League One History, Format, Organization, Media Coverage
The England Football League One, commonly known as League one, is the third top division in the English football league system. It was founded in 2004, and it operates on a system of promotion and relegation.
Twenty-four (24) clubs contest the English Football League One. Each team plays 46 games (23 at home and 23 away) in a season. Three points are awarded for a win. A draw attracts one point.
At the end of the season, the two top-ranked clubs on the league table are automatically promoted to the Football League Championship. The third to sixth-placed teams compete in a play-off. The winner of the division's play-offs joins the league champions and first runner-up in the Championship.
The four lowest clubs in the division are relegated to EFL League Two. Relatively, the top four clubs of League Two - including the winner of the 4th–7th place play-offs in the division - get promoted to League One.
Clubs in the English Football League One are eligible to participate in the FA Cup, EFL Cup, and the EFL Trophy. A team from the league can also qualify for the UEFA Europa League through the FA Cup or EFL Cup.
