About

ViX history, coverage, features

ViX is a Spanish-language streaming service owned by TelevisaUnivision. It offers a mix of ad-supported streaming, with a portion of its programming available for free, while the majority is behind a subscription, featuring content licensed to TelevisaUnivision or acquired from third-party content providers.

ViX’s origins date back to 1999 with the formation of Batanga Media, which later rebranded to ViX in 2017. It was eventually acquired by Univision in 2021 and merged with PrendeTV, Univision’s existing ad-supported streaming service, a year later to create the ViX we know today.

The streaming service was initially known as PrendeTV in the USA and ViX in foreign markets, such as Mexico. However, it has since adopted the ViX branding universally.

The platform streams a wide array of programming in the USA, including classic TV shows, documentaries, television series, films, telenovelas, and — most importantly — live sports. ViX has built a reputation for broadcasting some of the largest sporting events, either exclusively or in partnership with its sister networks, TUDN, Univision, and UniMás.

This includes UEFA’s three continental club competitions: the UEFA Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League, for which TelevisaUnivision acquired the Spanish-language rights in 2023.

Several other premium soccer tournaments have also featured on the platform, such as the European Championship, UEFA Nations League, Concacaf Nations League, Concacaf Gold Cup, Liga MX, and Brasileirão, among others.

As mentioned earlier, ViX is available for free, while certain pay-TV providers include a premium ViX subscription for their viewers at no additional cost. The streaming service is also accessible on Prime Video and YouTube TV.

Once signed up or subscribed, viewers can stream ViX on its official website or via the ViX app, which is available for download on smartphones, tablets, smart TVs, streaming devices such as Roku and Chromecast, and other Internet-connected devices.
