Match facts and other historical stats - Juventus vs. Sassuolo

  • Sassuolo have beaten Juventus only once - a 1-0 result back in October 2015
  • The Bianconeri have yet to concede a goal to Sassuolo at Juventus Stadium
  • Sassuolo are featuring in European competition for the first time this season

Preview and Prediction

Like many of Europe's big clubs, Juventus will have a very congested fixture list ahead of them. The Bianconeri will next face "kings of the Europa League" Sevilla to commence their Champions League campaign, meaning that Massimiliano Allegri could opt to rotate his squad for this match. Interestingly enough, upcoming opponents Sassuolo are the team that in essence jump-started La Vecchia Signora's revival. Back in October, Juve were beaten 1-0 on the road, and after that, they began their impressive comeback that saw them overtake rivals like Napoli and Inter to make it a fifth consecutive Scudetto title.

Although the Champions League is now their objective, Juventus are also seeking to make it an unprecedented sixth straight Scudetto next May. Meanwhile, Sassuolo, who could be missing key striker Domenico Berardi for this fixture, will be featuring in the Europa League for the first time in their history. Considering they only arrived in Serie A back in 2013, this is an impressive achievement.

Eusebio Di Francesco's men have built a reputation as "giant-killers" as they have managed to beat all of Italy's bigger sides, including Inter, Napoli, Roma, and AC Milan as well as Juventus. It will be interesting to see if they have another surprise in store for the reigning champions as they arrive in Turin for Saturday's game.

Match facts and other historical stats - Roma vs. Sampdoria

  • The last time Roma lost in Serie A action was in January 2016 (1-0) to Juventus
  • The Giallorossi and Sampdoria have met 39 times, with 18 wins for Roma, 10 for Samp, and 11 draws
  • However, Sampdoria defeated Roma quite recently at the Stadio Olimpico - a 2-0 result in March 2015
  • The visitors lost or drew 17 out of their 19 road fixtures last season

Preview and Prediction

Roma's fickle showings surely must have supporters a bit concerned. Although the new season is still young, the Giallorossi have shown glimpses of the good, the bad, and the ugly. A hard fought away win to Porto followed by a 4-0 thrashing of Udinese was encouraging, to say the least. However, the way the Lupi capitulated to Porto in the second leg, followed by a toothless display against Cagliari will have fans hoping that the international hiatus will have rejuvinated the squad.

Next up for the Giallorossi is a Europa League tie with Czech outfit Viktoria Plzen, and Luciano Spalletti will hope that his men will use this match as a way to build up some positive momentum before the mid-week match. The hosts will be without the services of defender Antonio Rudiger due to a long term injury, and key midfielder Daniele De Rossi could miss out as a result of a calf problem.

As for Sampdoria, they're flying high after two back to back victories. However, Roma will naturally represent a much tougher opponent than Empoli or Atalanta, but they arrive in the Italian capital with no notable injuries nor suspensions of note.
