The Spanish defender said that he would have preferred for Carletto to stay. He considers Benitez a good coach.

Sergio Ramos is one of the few Real Madrid players that has publicly spoken about his point of view on the fact that his fomer coach, Carlo Ancelotti, was dismissed from his position last week. The defender felt that the Italian manager gave the team much more than just trophies in the two years he spent in Madrid.

"Madrid fans can savour the taste of not only a great person but a great coach who gave us a lot of titles that we didn't win for a long time," Ramos said.

Ramos and some of his other teammates like Marcelo and Cristiano Ronaldo were supportive of Carletto, who guided the team to win it all except La Liga. Ronaldo had even posted a message on Twitter that he hoped to continue working with him once the season was over.

Ramos also used Twitter to express his gratitude towards his former manager

"I'm not the best placed to decide these things. Perhaps, in my case, I would not have done this but that is what the club directors are there to do," he told reporters as he reported with the National Team for the Euro Qualifiers.

The 29-year-old player did not confirm the name of their new manager. He is aware that many rumours claim Rafael Benitez as the team's next head coach. Ramos considers that Benitez is capable of doing a good job if he ends up being the man with the job.

"He's a great coach with a lot of experience in Italy, England, Spain... a coach who brings experience is always good for a dressing-room like ours," said the defender.

Benitez may not be the only new face in Real Madrid for next season. There has been plenty of speculation about who will be the team's starting goalkeeper by the time August rolls around. Ramos knows David De Gea from their time together with La Furia but respects the work of his current teammates.

"De Gea is a great goalkeeper, he's shown that," Ramos said. "One hears that he could come to Madrid but, out of respect for Keylor Navas, Iker Casillas and Pacheco, I won't say anything."

De Gea, Ramos and Casillas will spend some time together this summer
