This is the first major football streaming deal for the platform in that country since its launch.

In what has been seen as a bold move for that market, Amazon Prime Video has signed a major deal to cover the 2024 edition of the Copa América, which is set to begin on June 20.

The deal will see Amazon Prime Video streaming all six group games in which Argentina and Brazil are involved. Additionally, the platform will be allowed to cover all eight KO stage matches, including the third-place match and the title clash, set to be played on July 14.

This is the first major football deal for Amazon Prime Video since it was launched in this country. Prior to this move, the platform had only covered live boxing events and baseball matches, but no football had ever been shown on the service.

All games will be shown live at around noon in Japan, given the time difference with the United States. All games have been scheduled for prime time in North America, giving fans in Japan a chance to watch them at an earlier time.

The 2024 Copa América will be the second in history to be played by 16 national teams: ten from CONMEBOL and six more from the Concacaf region. Live coverage for this tournament in the U.S. has been handed to Fox Sports and TelevisaUnivisión.
