UEFA Euro 2024 – Group F schedule

Group F will be quite special to watch, mainly because it could be the final hurrah for one of the best players of our  time, and on top of that, the inclusion of a new team in UEFA Euro history will be a sight to remember. The group will also feature two rather inconsistent but talented teams in Turkey and the Czech Republic, who may not be title contenders right now, but could end up becoming the "dark horses" when the final stages take place.

Team profiles

Turkey

The Crescent Stars dominated their Qualifying group and booked their spot in this competition without hesitation, where they have a bit of revenge to take due to their woeful run a few years back. A new generation of Turkish footballers led by a Serie A champion seems ready to become one of the most electric teams to watch, but it will all depend on how they can handle the pressures of playing against tougher rivals than those they faced in the Qualifiers.

UEFA Euro appearances: 6 out of 17 tournaments

Titles won: None

Best finish:3rd place in 2000.

Worst performance: 24th place (2020)

2020 UEFA Euro ranking: 24th.

Players to watch: Hakan Calhanoglu, Cenk Tosun, Orkun Kokcu, Arda Guler.

Georgia

One of the biggest stories in this UEFA Euro edition will have to do with Georgia. The Crusaders reached the group stage of the tournament thanks to a lucky draw that saw them qualify to the playoffs despite finishing fourth in Group A, and once in the KO stage, the white and red side managed to eliminate the heavy favorites Greece to enter the competition. While no one expects much from the Georgians in the 2024 edition, the team certainly has the tools to give some of their group rivals a run for the money, and who knows? Maybe they will manage to claim the third place in this lot and a spot in the next round.

UEFA Euro appearances: 1 out of 17

Titles won: None

Best finish: This will be their debut

Worst performance: n/a

2020 UEFA Euro ranking: Did not qualify.

Players to watch: Giorgi Mamardashvili, Guram Kashia, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

Portugal

A Selecao presents itself as the top contender to win this group, and given their form in the qualifiers (ten wins in ten games), they seem as a solid candidate to reach the final four. Nonetheless, the team will have some issues to deal before their first match, including Cristiano Ronaldo's spot as a regular starter or as a substitute, something that the Portuguese superstar did not take well in 2022. Even without CR7, the team coached by Bob Martínez seems like a big threat for most teams, but will they have what it takes to repeat their feat from 2016?

UEFA Euro appearances: 9 out of 17

Titles won: One

Best finish: Champions in 2016

Worst performance: 13th place (2020)

2020 UEFA Euro ranking: 13th.

Players to watch: Cristiano Ronaldo, Bruno Fernandes, Bernardo Silva, Rafael Leao.

Czech Republic

It had been a while since the Czech side had made an impact in world football before the 2020 edition of this tournament, where they surprised everyone by reaching the final eight teams. Now, the team led by Ivan Hasek needs to prove that was no fluke, and making it to the next round would be a good place to start. The Lokomotiva could easily become one of the dark horses of the competition if they can play their cards properly, but to do so, they must prove their run in 2020 was not something casual. After narrowly missing the top spot in their Qualifying group, ruling them out of the next round would be a big mistake, especially since their record against their group rivals is not that unflattering.

UEFA Euro appearances: 11 out of 17

Titles won: One

Best finish: Champions in 1976 (as Czechoslovakia)

Worst performance: 21st in 2016.

2020 UEFA Euro ranking: 6th (eliminated in the Quarterfinals).

Players to watch: Tomas Soucek, Patrik Schick, Vladimir Coufal, Antonin Barak.

Must-watch games

The first game that comes to mind in this group has to be Turkey vs Georgia, especially due to the  Georgians' debut in the competition. Next up, Portugal vs Czech Republic has to be mentioned considering the caliber of these contenders. Last, but not least, Turkey vs Portugal could be the game that defines the winner of this group, while also giving Cristiano Ronaldo a chance to re-write the competition's history books. With that in mind, those should be the three top games to watch in Group F.

Group prediction

Due to the team's impressive talent, Portugal should take the top spot of the group, which should be a big improvement following their performance in the 2020 edition. The second spot of the lot should be decided between the Turks and the Czech Republic. Sadly, the Cinderella-type story for Georgia will not end up well, and if things go as most experts believe, they will only be able to play three games and go back home.

  1. Portugal
  2. Turkey
  3. Czech Republic
  4. Georgia
