Celtic Park will play host to what promises to be a scintillating fixture as Scotland welcome the Auld Enemy to Glasgow on Tuesday, the 18th of November.

It will be a friendly match played in a very unfriendly environment as the two nations go head to head on Tuesday. There were 230 arrests last time the two teams met one another in Scotland back in 1999 and the atmosphere is expected be as chaotic as ever with the friendly fixture given the highest possible Uefa security risk rating.

Despite the suspected unrest Ch Supt Andy Bates, event commander for the game has ensured that order will be maintained throughout the match and troublemakers will be curtailed.

"There may well be some troublemakers travelling from England," he said.

"We've been working very closely with the UK football policing unit and colleagues from across Police Scotland to monitor the activities of these groups that might want to cause trouble.

"They are a small minority."

He added: "I am very confident that we will identify the troublemakers and we'll disrupt any activities that they might want to engage in."

The rivalry was heightened in the early days and was a regular and an anticipated fixture in the 90s, however its worth mentioning that the clash between the two sides at Wembley last year was after a 14 year absence. The fixture began losing its charm with Scottish football regressing over the years.
The last time they participated in a major tournament was back in 1998 when the World Cup was held in France. Meanwhile the Three Lions picked up rivalries with other European heavyweights, most notably Germany and even though England have nothing to show for their efforts in the recent past it can be argued that they made more progress during this period than their nemesis.

Political tensions between the two countries is another factor which will heighten the intensity of the match as the rivals meet at Celtic Park. This will be the first time the two sides will go head to head following the referendum back in September which saw Scotland being denied independence. Even though the majority opted to vote against the idea of an independent country, the voting results have left a bitter taste in the mouth of many of the locals who would be hoping their team can pick a massive win on Tuesday. Scotland's recent victory over rivals Ireland has left the football fans in the country in a buoyant mood who are hopeful their team can make it to Europe's elite international tournament for the first time in almost 20 years.

Despite of the fact that the result of this match will have no bearing on either side's qualification to Euro 2016, England captain Wayne Rooney has insisted that he will be taking the match seriously in order to attain the bragging rights.

“I can only speak on behalf of myself and this is a massive game for me. We want to win. It’s about bragging rights for everyone," he said.

“This is a massive fixture. We won’t be taking this game lightly at all. We’ll be going in there to win.

“With the history of England and Scotland – and I grew up with David Moyes and Sir Alex Ferguson - this is certainly one I want to win."

“I can’t wait. It’s great for Great Britain and it will be a fantastic ¬atmosphere. I’m actually glad it’s at Celtic Park. It will be even more special there and it’s game I’ve been looking forward to since the fixture was made."

The Man United man once again stressed on the importance of the match claiming that it will not have the feel of a friendly match to it.

“No, it won’t be a friendly. You have some friendlies with England and they’re games you know you should win and there is that friendly feeling to it."
