About

DAZN USA history, coverage, features

DAZN, pronounced “Da Zone,” is a prominent sports streaming service founded by Access Industries. Although it is a British-owned platform, DAZN has grown to become a global force in the sports streaming scene, broadcasting everything from boxing to soccer across several worldwide markets, including North American powerhouses the USA and Canada.

While DAZN was established in 2015, the streaming service has its roots in Perform Group, a company founded in 2007 following the merger between Premium TV Limited and Inform Group.

One of DAZN’s initial forays into soccer occurred in February 2016 when it acquired exclusive worldwide media rights to Japan’s top soccer league, J1 League. The platform entered the North American market in July 2017, expanding into Canada and securing streaming rights for NFL (National Football League) content, which included the NFL Game Pass and NFL RedZone.

DAZN entered the U.S. market in 2018, announcing this move in May before its official stateside launch in September. The streaming service’s first step came in a $1 billion broadcast deal with Matchroom Boxing worth two years, with the option for a six-year extension.

Under this agreement, the platform began staging and exclusively streaming boxing events in the USA in partnership with Matchroom Boxing. This began DAZN’s dive into combat sports in the United States.

Shortly after, DAZN signed a five-year deal with Bellator, a mixed martial arts promotion owned by Viacom. The first boxing event streamed on DAZN in the USA was the September 2018 fight between Anthony Joshua and Alexander Povetkin.

While combat sports have been a key aspect of DAZN’s offerings, the service has also broadcast various sporting events. In November 2018, it secured a three-year partnership with Major League Baseball (MLB) for on-demand highlights and a live analytical studio program called “ChangeUp.” However, DAZN was later forced to remove its MLB content due to financial difficulties stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic.

DAZN has also covered high-profile soccer competitions in the United States. This includes securing exclusive broadcasting rights for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, allowing the platform to stream the expanded tournament live and free in the USA and worldwide. It should be noted that DAZN sublicensed English-language rights to Warner Bros. Discovery and Spanish-language rights to TelevisaUnivision for this tournament.

Additionally, DAZN obtained exclusive and non-exclusive Spanish-language broadcast rights to Serie A, one of Europe’s premier soccer leagues, ahead of the 2025-26 season. This agreement secured DAZN the rights to broadcast all Italian top-flight matches in the USA, U.S. possessions, and the Caribbean.

DAZN also secured a four-year global broadcasting deal for the UEFA Women’s Champions League, spanning from the 2021-22 to 2024-25 seasons, excluding China and the MENA region. During the first half of this agreement, the service streamed games live on its platform and official YouTube account, though the number of fixtures available on YouTube decreased later on. In May 2023, DAZN launched a FAST channel named “DAZN Women’s Football” to cover women’s soccer.

Moreover, DAZN has offered linear channels on its platform in the U.S. and other markets, including Billiard TV, Boxing TV, DAZN Combat, DAZN Women's Football, NFL Network, PGA Tour Fast Channel, and Unbeaten, among others.

While DAZN is available for free, only select events can be accessed without charge, with the majority of its sports catalog requiring a subscription. Once subscribed, viewers can stream content on a variety of internet-connected devices, including smartphones, tablets, smart TVs, gaming consoles, desktops, and laptops. DAZN has also partnered with third-party TV providers, such as fuboTV, which formed a multi-year integrated partnership in June 2025.
