The U.S. men’s national team will take on Caribbean foe Jamaica on Thursday, Oct. 7, at 7:30 p.m. ET. American soccer fans will need to tune in to ESPN2, TUDN or Univision to watch all the action.

After a rigid first three Concacaf World Cup Qualifying matchdays, the top Caribbean, Central American and North American nations are back in action. The goal? A spot in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

The closest team to earn all nine points from their three qualifying games was Mexico, who won two and drew one for seven points. Canada, the U.S. and Panama are tied for second place with five points apiece. And at the bottom, in eighth place, is Jamaica with just one point.

USMNT vs. Jamaica: Preview

The USA and Jamaica feel as if they should have done better in the first three games of the Octagonal Stage.

Despite being tied in second place after three games, USMNT players, staff and fans feel as if they were left short-handed given the quality in the roster. Draws against El Salvador and Canada to start their qualifying campaign reminded American fans of that 2018 World Cup qualifying run that will forever remain as a stain in U.S. Soccer history. Nonetheless, a healthy 4-1 win against Honduras in the final game of September left the USA in a good position for the upcoming games.

On the other hand, the Reggae Boyz were expected to be a force in the competition after a slew of European talent arrived at the island. High-caliber players with English Premier League and Scottish Premier League experience in West Ham United's Michail Antonio, Brentford's Ethan Pinnock, Ranger's Kemar Roofe, Fulham's Bobby Reed, Aston Villa's Leon Bailey and AFC Bournemouth's Jamal Lowe changed their nationalities to represent Jamaica. However, the lack of chemistry was evident as the Reggae Boyz fell to Mexico 2-1 and lost to Panama 3-0 in Kingston in their first two games. The Jamaicans were able to salvage a point against Costa Rica in their last game in the September qualifying games.

The USA will face Panama and Costa Rica next, while Jamaica looks to secure six points from their games against Canada and Honduras.
