Yellow Submarine coach Garrido believes that Saturday’s Villarreal vs Barcelona showdown will test his team’s state of strength and have a great impact on their confidence along the road.
Villarreal are fighting in a tight contest against Valencia to win La Liga’s third and last automatic Champions League spot. The final round of matches will prove to be crucial as their fate remains very much undecided since they have 54 points just like Los Che.

Interestingly, Saturday’s game against Barcelona precedes next weekend’s huge clash away to Valencia. And that’s not all.

Thrills are set to continue until the end of the road for the Yellow Submarines as they’ll have to face teams that are currently in the top half of La Liga’s table; those are Sevilla, Mallorca and Real Madrid. In short, Villarreal vs Barcelona can be seen as the first brick of the Yellow Submarines’ last path to domestic success this season.

“We are entering into the decisive phase of our season and it's time to give everything,” Juan Carlos Garrido told the press on Friday.

“The public will also have to give 100 per cent considering the hugeness of this game. Winning a match like this will make us a great team.

“We want to have a great season and these are the types of matches that can change an entire campaign. This is when we can be sure of ourselves and believe that we are a great team.”

It will take some strength from above for Villarreal to upset Barcelona, but the Yellow Submarines “have the right instruments to cause big problems” to the Catalans, according to Real Madrid’s Adebayor. Whatever it is, here are a few records that Villarreal will clinch if they defeat Barca on Saturday:

1) Villarreal will become the first home team to defeat Barcelona in La Liga this season since the Catalans haven’t lost away from the Camp Nou in a total of 14 away games.

2) Villarreal will become only the second team to defeat Barca after Hercules did so back in September.

3) Villarreal will end Barcelona’s 27-matches unbeaten record which reveals that the Catalans have gone 2430 minutes without tasting failure in La Liga.

On that note, Saturday’s match at El Madrigal is indeed crucial and could serve as a big turning point. However, that won’t just be a turning point for Villarreal, but for Barcelona as well. A defeat for the Catalans will only mean “Game on!” for Real Madrid – especially if Los Blancos take their chances against Sporting Gijon.
