The special competition set new records for attendance, viewership, and social and digital media engagement.

The Copa America Centenario is near its end, as the world awaits to see who’ll walk away with the trophy – FIFA’s number one ranked side Argentina or reigning champions Chile

The tournament was a successful one for hosts the United States, albeit the Stars and Stripes making the final and winning the tournament would have been the cherry on top of the ice cream. Nonetheless, reaching the last 4 is one feat to be proud of.

The ceremonial competition began on the 3rd of June and will conclude on the 26th, with 90 goals having been scored so far in the 30 games that have been played. And with two matches to spare, the tournament has already proven to be record-breaking, as revealed by Copa America Local Organizing Committee (LOC).

With an average of 3.0 goals per match, Copa America Centenario has shattered records for attendance, viewership, and social and digital media engagement. Once the final whistle comes down on La Albiceleste’s rematch with La Roja, 1.5 million fans will have attended all 32 games.

This makes Copa America Centenario the most attended Copa America tournament in the competition’s 100-year history, whilst the 1994 World Cup is the only official single-game soccer tournament held in the United States with a higher attendance.

The tournament has been tremendously successful for TV channels, as USMNT’s 4-0 loss to Messi and Co. was the most watched men’s football game for FS1.

In addition, the group stage racked in more views for Univision Deportes than the 2014 World Cup group stage, whilst the tournament also witnessed more than 3.5m users across all social media platforms, overtaking the tally held by the 2015 edition.

USA will be in action one more time before it’s a wrap, as Jurgen Klinsmann boys gear up to face Colombia on Saturday in a replay of the opening game, as both sides look to finish the tournament in third place.
