The final for Copa America Centenario is still five days away, and Argentina’s opponents for the ultimate game hasn’t yet been decided, but La Albiceleste have already been handed a huge blow for the MetLife Stadium clash.
Gerardo Martino’s crew will have to make do without a key attacker after confirmation arrived that Ezequiel Lavezzi will miss the final through injury.
The Hebei China Fortune star was instrumental in his side’s 4-0 win over USA in the semi-final, opening the goalscoring fest after only 4 minutes of play, beating Brad Guzan with a lovely header.
However, the former PSG ace was forced off the pitch in the second half after an awkward fall left the 31-year-old with an injury. Lavezzi leaped for a header but fell over an advertising board, leaving him with a fractured elbow.
Coming off in the 67th minute, the Argentine did enough to help the 2015 Copa America runners-up book their spot in a second consecutive final, but unfortunately will not play a part in Monday’s game.
FIFA’s number one ranked nation await their opponent for the final, as they will either meet Colombia or Chile – a repeat of the 2015 final – on the 27th, with Los Cafeteros and La Roja gearing up to lock horns on Wednesday.
