Paulo Bento's squad did not perform all that well in Brazil, and they will want to set the record straight on Sunday. Watch live on TV and online as the Portuguese meet Albania for the sixth time in their history.

Portugal will begin their Euro 2016 qualification on Sunday when they host Albania at the Estádio de Aveiro. This will be their sixth meeting all-time, with their previous five encounters not ending in favor of the Albanians.

After a very disappointing campaign in the 2014 World Cup, fans were quick to call for the dismissal of manager Paulo Bento. The Portuguese FA made it clear that they would not dismiss Bento, and the former Portuguese international was also adamant that he would not walk away.

He now is tasked with bouncing back after failing to make it out of their group in Brazil.

Starting things in Group I against Albania should give the Lusitanos a good chance of earning three points. But, as we’ve seen in the past, Portugal tends to facilitate against lesser opponents.

The hosts will be without captain Cristiano Ronaldo, after he was ruled unfit by the team doctors. Another absence for Portugal will be Bruno Alves, who is also out injured. Benfica’s Ruben Amorim will also not take part in this match, after picking up a serious knee injury which will keep him sidelined until 2015.

Knowing that they owe the fans a response, William Carvalho is confident that him and his teammates can put on a good performance on Sunday.

"We all know that in the World Cup we perform well below what our team is capable of," the Sporting midfielder told reporters on Thursday

"I don't feel like we have anything to prove, but we know we have to show much more than we did in our last match, which was at the World Cup. In regards to our mistakes, we've already work on sorting them out."

With some familiar faces missing, Portuguese fans will get a chance to see some of their youth, which has been highly rated.

Ruben Vezo, Pedro Tiba and Ricardo Horta will get the chance to represent their country, while Bruma returns to the squad, after picking up a serious knee injury before the World Cup.

Gianni De Biasi’s side will have it all to do in their opening match, but having nothing to lose and everything to gain should allow them to play with less pressure.

The Red and Blacks are ranked 70th in the FIFA rankings, in comparison to Portugal, who is 11th.

Without a presence in any major tournament in their history, qualifying for Euro 2016 will be a tall order. In a group that also features Denmark, Armenia and Serbia, they will have to really take advantage of their home fixtures, while grabbing a point or two away from home will also go a long way.

Portugal’s defenders will have to keep close tabs on Hamdi Salihi of Hapoel Acre, as the 30-year-old has scored 11 goals for his country in 48 matches. If they perform defensively like they did in their opening match in Brazil against Germany, the visitors will be confident that they could grab at least one goal on Sunday.
