About Scottish League Two
Scottish League Two History, Format, Organization, Media Coverage
The Scottish League Two is Scotland’s fourth-tier men’s football league. It was founded in 2013 after the Scottish Premier League and Scottish Football League merger and is managed by the Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL).
The Scottish League Two season typically begins in July or August and concludes in April or May, featuring ten teams playing one another four times—twice at home and twice away.
The team that finishes first is crowned champion and automatically promoted to the Scottish League One, the third tier. Clubs finishing between second and fourth enter a play-off: the runner-up faces the third-place team, while the fourth-place club competes against the second-to-last team from the Scottish League One. The play-off winner either secures promotion alongside the champion or ensures survival in the third tier if the team is from League One.
At the bottom of the table, the last-place team faces a relegation play-off against the winner of the pyramid play-off between the Highland Football League and Lowland Football League champions. This match is also played over two legs, with the victor earning a spot in the Scottish League Two for the following season.
Peterhead won the inaugural League Two title in 2013-14, led by striker Rory McAllister, who scored an impressive 32 goals. The Aberdeenshire-based club claimed the championship again five seasons later, becoming the first team to win the Scottish fourth division more than once.
