Both these Lisbon rivals will go head to head in a highly anticipated Taça de Portugal match live on Sport TV1.

Benfica and Sporting CP square off on November 9, 2013 in the Taca de PortugalPreview: Lisbon Derby takes center stage in the Portuguese capital

For years now, Benfica and Sporting CP have been battling it out for supremacy in the Portuguese capital. Unfortunately for the Lions, they have not been able to jump ahead of their same city rivals. On Saturday, they will meet again in the Portuguese Cup, in a match that promises to have a lot of excitement.

Both sides have already met in the domestic league this season, with Benfica grabbing a 1-1 draw at the Estadio Jose Alvalade.

An early goal from new signing Freddy Montero gave the hosts the lead, but super-sub Lazar Markovic came off the bench to grab an important goal for Jorge Jesus' side.

Now it will be Benfica's turn to welcome their rivals to the Estadio da Luz.

Coming off arguably their best performance of the season, only a spectacular Roberto Jimenez was able to stop Benfica from getting at least one point in Greece against Olympiakos. The former Benfica shot-stopper had an outstanding performance on Tuesday, but Jorge Jesus is not worried about that defeat heading into Saturday's match.

With the way Sporting has started the 2013/14 campaign, Benfica's manager believes that Saturday's match will be a great one to watch.

"The fact that we are playing at home is always an extra motivation," Jesus told reporters as he spoke about Saturday's match. "But the match against Sporting is a derby match between two clubs that want to win this competition, and because of that, this will be a match of a lot of responsibility."

One positive note for Jesus will be the fact that Oscar Cardozo appears to have recovered from his mid-week injury, and will be available for this match. New signing Fejsa should also be available, but Rodrigo is still a question mark.

Sporting's manager will know all about Benfica, having already gone up against them once this season. But despite having already seen his opponent up close and personal once this season, he is not planning on changing anything.

"Just because we are playing against Benfica, that does not mean we are going to change the way we play," Leonardo Jardim told reporters. "We know how important this match is, and knowing that this is an elimination match, someone has to get knocked out. Our objective is to be in the final of this competition, and with that, we need to make that our thought process going into the match."

The last time these two sides met so early in this competition was back in the 1975/76 season, when Libanio's goal at the Estadio Alvalade gave Sporting the victory. Since then, one of the most exciting meetings between these two sides came at Alvalade, when Benfica was leading 0-2 at halftime, but the hosts were able to turn things around, winning 5-3.

From all their meetings in the Taça de Portugal, Sporting has won 17 matches (51.5%), while Benfica has only won 14 (14.4%). The remaining two matches ended in a draw.

But the interesting stat here is that away from home, Sporting has only defeated Benfica on three occasions, from a total of 17 matches. Their last victory at the Estadio da Luz came in 2000, when Augusto Inacio, now a part of Sporting's directors, was the manager.
