The goals were scored by the on-form Olivier Giroud and Aaron Ramsey. But it was the Frenchman who made headlines after the match. According to statistics, he has now scored 50 goals in the Premier League for Arsenal in 113 appearances, a record that can only be rivalled by former Arsenal legendary players Thierry Henry and Ian Wright who needed 83 and 87 games respectively to reach the 50 goal mark for the North London club.
As expected, Arsenal fans heaped praise on their hero, who had earlier rescued them from the brink of Champions League elimination by scoring a hat-trick against Olympiacos last Wednesday. Interestingly, this weekend, the Frenchman has also helped Arsenal ascend to the top of the Premier League with 33 points.
His teammate Mesut Ozil is yet another player who captured the attention of many football fans. The German international, fondly referred to as the king of assists, provided his 13th assist of the season, which helped Ramsey score the second goal for the match. This season, the beneficiaries of Ozil’s assits include Giroud (5), Sanchez(3), Campbell (2), Gibbs(1), Walcott (1) and lately, Ramsey (1).
Twitter reactions to Giroud's 50th goal for Arsenal and Ozil's latest assit:
