About

ESPN App history, coverage, features

The ESPN app is a free mobile phone app available in the USA, owned by ESPN. The app was launched by the media giant in 2018, and it took over from their previous app, WatchESPN, which was launched seven years earlier.

The ESPN app serves two main purposes. Firstly, it provides sports fans in the USA with the latest news, scores and fixtures across several top sports. Secondly, it offers fans live and on-demand streaming via ESPN+, which is housed on the app.

ESPN+ is ESPN's exclusive streaming service, allowing users to watch additional sports broadcasts on smartphones, tablets and other iOS and Android devices. While the ESPN app is free, ESPN+ requires a monthly or annual subscription.

Over the years, ESPN+ has had the rights to show live matches from several big football competitions, including the FA Cup and Carabao Cup. Matches from these tournaments have been available for live streaming on the ESPN app, via ESPN+.
