On May 15th, 12 years ago, Real Madrid won their last Champions League title. Disappointingly, in the last 12 years los Blancos have never made the final of the European competition, which has been largely dominated by their fierce rivals, Barcelona.

Ancelotti’s team however, seems ripe for a win, which is one of the few trophies Cristiano Ronaldo has not managed to win with this team. The Portuguese winger stated:

"I've always dreamt about winning this competition with this club."

Statistics are heavily in Real Madrid's favor

With regards to the pressure that comes with attempting to win the 10th Champions League, CR7 said:

"Pressure forms part of football and playing for Real. We're used to having to always win, but that's a good thing. I like pressure because it makes me play better. It gives you special adrenaline."

Will Diego Costa be the new "anti-Madrid" phenomenon?

Furthermore, the Portuguese praised his current coach:

"It has been a very pleasant experience right from the beginning. He's an excellent person and a unique human being […] I'm very happy working with them and hope they stay for many years to come.”

Though Real are favorites, Atletico's chance to make history may be decisive

Last time Ronaldo held the trophy, he was 6 years younger and was wearing United's jersey

Everything around Real Madrid transpires confidence and a reassuring sense of calmness. But on May 24, it will be a completely different story.
