Some players will become good players, remembered with nostalgic feelings by their fans; a very small number of those players will become great players; and just a few of those, will become legends, missed by their fans and never forgotten, they will live on for eternity: Javier Zanetti was one of those.

He was one of those players, appreciated and respected by all fans of football, regardless of colors or allegiances; he was that good.

Some of the Argentinian's statistics

Yesterday night, after bashing Lazio for 4-1, admittedly a harsher result than the Biancocelesti deserved. Every goal was celebrated by each scorer with a run to the bench and a hug to the eternal captain. Then came Zanetti’s time for his last entrance on the San Siro as a player. Standing ovation by the entire stadium, including guests. It was the captain’s 857th appearance since joining the club in 1995.

Former Inter owner Moratti said:

“From the moment he arrived at Inter he always honoured the shirt and always made us proud to be Inter fans”

The Argentinian won 5 titles with Inter, including the treble in 2010 and conquered 145 caps with the Albiceleste. Inter’s former captain stated:

“I'll miss lots of things: the dressing room, drinking Mate (a South American popular hot drink) with Samuel and Milito and the training camps.”
