Four teams are still in the run to become South American champions. Get a hold of the games being played this week with our guide.

We are about to know the identity of the two teams that will fight for the 2022 Copa Libertadores title, and to get to know them, we step into the first leg of the semi-finals.

Three teams from Brazil and one more from Argentina will be involved in this round, where we could see an team featuring Brazilian teams exclusively for the third year in a row. With that in mind, prior to the semis we have secured the presence of a team playing in the Brasileirao for the fourth straight tournament, which will come out of the Athletico-PR vs Palmeiras clash.

Out of the teams included in this stage of the tournament, only Athletico-PR has not been able to win the title, and quite frankly, it will take more than a smile from them to accomplish such a feat this year. The current back-to-back defending champions Palmeiras and the powerful Flamengo seem to have the upper hand on that matter, but if football has shown us anything is that all bets are off when we reach defining stages of a competition.

Without further ado, let's have a look at the first legs of the semi-finals set to begin on Tuesday evening.

Athletico-PR vs Palmeiras

The defending champions seemed to have everything going their way to secure a three-peat. Nevertheless, they lives some scary moments in their quarterfinal tie against Atletico Mineiro, who forced a penalty shootout to determine the winner. Now, Abel Ferreira's team will want to prove that their game against Mineiro was just a bad day at the office, even if facing Athletico-PR may not be as easy as they can imagine.

Paranaense are still unbeaten at home in this edition of the Libertadores (four wins, one draw), while Palmeiras had won all their matches held away from home until their quarterfinal tie against Mineiro. All things considered, the clash set to take place on Tuesday night promises to be an interesting first leg, and it could get even better for the second match if Athletico find a way to make their home-field advantage count.

Vélez Sarsfield vs Flamengo

The red and black side seem as powerful as ever with their new signing s and their impressive performances, but Vélez Sarsfield have also shown they have to be considered a true contender after eliminating some tough opponents.

in order to get to this game, Vélez has been forced to beat only Argentine rivals in the KO stages, following their wins over River Plate and Talleres. After a shaky run in the group stage, where they only won once at home, the Argentine side has won both of their KO clashes when playing as hosts, and that would be decisive for them on Wednesday.

On the other hand, Flamengo have won four of their five matches away from home in this edition of the Libertadores, including their two KO stage matches so far. This might give Dorival Junior's team an edge over their hosts, but Vélez's drive in front of their supporters may be enough to give the Rubro-Negro a run for their money.
