In their last friendly match ahead of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, France will face China at the Stade Michel Volnay on June 4. Both teams met in a corresponding fixture before the 2006 World Cup in Germany with the Chinese losing 3-1 in the end.

France players listening to Coach Raymond Domenech during training.Les Bleus won the support of their fans following their 2-1 victory over Costa Rica which was spiced with some good attacking display, thanks to the adoption of the 4-3-3 formation. But their most recent game, which was a 1-1 drawn game against Tunisia, provoked the critics that seemed to have gone to bed. France’s defense was exposed to lack of concentration and Raymond Domenech explained why:

“It’s interesting to see more offensive animations, but it puts us more at risk defensively.”

Patrice Evra dismissed any kind of pessimism from the public’s opinion over Fance’s readiness ahead of the World Cup. The Manchester United defender explained that their mission is all about avoiding defeat during the warm-up phase which precedes the 2010 World Cup. He declared in a statement:

“Our goal is to not get defeated in any games between now and the World Cup. So far, we’ve managed to do just that.”

Winning is not a must as, according to Coach Raymond Domenech, “what counts is what will happen between June 11 and July 11”. Don’t expect Les Bleus to play with a lot of effort against China although French fans would want to see the team take advantage of China’s relatively poor defense. France will kick off their 2010 World Cup qualification campaign with a match against Uruguay on June 11, at 18:30 GMT. Get full coverage of the 2010 FIFA World Cup here, on LiveSoccerTV.com.
