Preview: Barcelona has a chance to makeup points

Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid will square off earlier in the day, which gives Barcelona a chance to gain some points on one, or both of their rivals. The thought of Almeria coming into the Nou Camp and grabbing points from the Catalans is hard to believe, but as we saw in Barcelona's last match, anything can happen.

Last weekends 3-1 defeat at the hands of Real Sociedad caught many by surprise. But with Barcelona still set to take on Real Madrid later this month, Tata Martino believes that his side has the title race in their own hands.

“Everything in the league continues to depend on ourselves, but we need to win every game that remains,” said Martino. “We need to change the mood quickly.”

With three points between themselves and league leaders Real Madrid, Barcelona could be six points back by the time they take the pitch on Sunday. If Atletico manages to grab any points at the Bernabeu, the Catalans could find themselves third.

Tata Martino and his players have taken a lot of criticism this week after their latest defeat, but neither the coach nor the players are bothered by it all.

“Personally I take criticism as something positive and use it to try and improve, although sometimes we have come in for criticism that we haven’t understood,” said the Barcelona manager.
They will be up against an Almeria side that is just above the relegation zone.

Four points clear of the dreaded drop zone, the visitors are well aware that Barcelona will be extra motivated after their last domestic result.

“They are favorites because they are fighting to win the title,” Almeria midfielder Verza told reporters. “They have slipped up and have gone three points behind Real Madrid, so they will want to redeem themselves for that defeat in front of their fans.”

“They will want to silence their critics and prove they are still the same, strong team and that this was just a blip and nothing else.”
