Second placed AS Roma will host Inter Milan at the Stadio Olimpico in a Serie A encounter on Saturday, the 1st of March 2013.

Preview: Roma poised to continue fine run against Internazionale

Inter Milan have recorded just a single win against the capital club in the last nine meeting between the two clubs with the last three matches ending in a victory for La Maggica. Owing to their current form the hosts will definitely be considered the favourite for the tie.

Rudi Garcia’s men second in Serie A, trail leaders Juventus by nine points and talismanic midfielder Daniele De Rossi among others is optimistic that the Old Lady will drop points in their coming fixtures.

"I don't know if Juventus will start to drop points now and whether it will be a spectacular end to the season, but we just need to win and hope they and [third-placed] Napoli drop points," De Rossi said.

"It is already impressive that we are so close to a team that was constructed to destroy all competition in the Serie A."

The Italian also praised his team’s character as they scored an important victory over Bologna during the weekend.

"We sent out a message that this is a completely different Roma," he added.

"In the past these games have been turning points and we tended to fall apart, but not this time. I saw a team that are focused and very strong. Don't forget Napoli drew here a few weeks ago."

The Giallorossi  produced a spectacular performance last time the two sides met at the San Siro. Roma ran riot scoring a 3-0 victory over their counterparts courtesy of a brace from captain Francesco Totti and another from Alessandro Florenzi with all goals coming in the first half.

A victory over the Nerazzurri will give Rudi Garcia’s men massive confidence as they chase their first Scudetto since the 2000-01 season. The Wolves have tasted defeat just once in the league this season and have won five of their last six matches which will surely have them in a buoyant mood ahead of the match.

Their home record has been impeccable this season having won 10 of their 12 matches they have played at the Stadio Olimpico with the other two ending in draws. The Giallorossi  have conceded a measly two goals in the process and have won all of their last five matches at home. Furthermore La Maggica also boast a strong home record against Inter, having not lost to the Nerazzurri  in their last four home outings.

Inter on the other hand have won just twice in their last five league outings and stuttered to a 1-1 draw against Cagliari last time out. Their antics have resulted in them falling down to the fifth spot. Three points will be very crucial to Walter Mazzarri’s men with Verona and Parma breathing on their necks. A defeat can prove to be colossal La Beneamata who can potentially finish this week placed seven in the league table.

After not tasting defeat in away league games for most part of the season, Inter have now lost four of their last five matches on the road and will have to produce better performances away from home if they are to secure a European spot. However the Nerazzurri  will take confidence from their last away fixture which resulted in a 2-1 victory for Inter over fourth placed Fiorentina.

Walter Mazzarri could welcome midfielder Hernanes back to the squad after the Brazilian missed the fixture against Cagliari through injury. Roma on the other hand might have to do without both of their goal scorers in the reverse fixture against Inter Milan with captain Totti a major doubt for the match whereas Alessandro Florenzi may also remain on the sidelines after suffering an ankle injury in the match against Bologna.
