Milan will begin life under Clarence Seedorf as the Dutchman takes charge of his first match as a manager against Hellas Verona.

Preview: Seedorf set for managerial debut at San Siro

Much has been spoken about the former Milan legend’s appointment as the head coach of the San Siro side and even though opinions remain divided the former Real Madrid midfielder has seemed to earn the confidence of Vice President Adriano Galliani among others, who has hailed Seedorf as being the right man for the job.

"My feelings are only positive," he said.

"I can sense that Clarence is really motivated. If he can do as a coach what he did as a player, then we will be very, very happy. Seedorf is going to provide the spark to ignite this squad.”

The midfielder penned a two and a half year deal with the Italian giants after Massimiliano Allegri was relieved of his duties following a 4-3 defeat at the hands of 17th placed Sassuolo . The former Botafogo midfielder announced his retirement following Milan’s interest in appointing his as their manager and even though the 37 year old has no prior managerial experience he is in for a rapturous reception from the San Siro faithful.

And the Dutchman will be looking for an instant impact beginning with a victory over a Verona side which has exceeded expectations this season. Milan on the other hands are in shambles, 11th in the league and just six points shy of the relegation zone. The Rossoneri have won just two of their last five matches which includes a 3-1 victory over Serie B side Spezia in the Coppa Italia.

Hardly a well known team outside Italy, Hellas Verona have been the surprise package of the season following their promotion to Italy’s top tier league. The Mastini  are currently sixth in the league table, on level points with fifth placed Inter Milan.

Whereas Andrea Mandorlini’s men have performed admirably at home, their away form has been disastrous with the Mastiffs having managed just two wins away from home. Verona started the match strongly in their last fixture against Napoli but ended up losing 3-0 and will be looking to make a response on Sunday.

Luca Toni will be the man to watch out for, the veteran striker has led Verona from the front and is their leading goal scorer with nine goals in the league and also leads the way with six assists. The 36 year old was on the score sheet when the two sides met on the first day of the current season and Toni’s solitary goal that night gave the Mastiffs a 1-0 win over the Rossoneri.

Kevin Constant, Stephan El Shaarawy and Ignazio Abate  have all been ruled out of the tie due to injuries whereas Sulley Muntari  is suspended for Sunday encounter for Milan. Jacopo Sala is the only absentee for Hellas Verona who otherwise have a fully fit squad.

New signing Keisuke Honda featured in the starting line-up for the first time for Milan in the match against Spezia and it will be interesting to see whether new manager Clarence Seedorf can accommodate him and Kaka in the same line-up.
