Turkish side Galatasaray welcome København to the Türk Telekom Arena in a Champions League encounter on Wednesday, the 23rd of October 2013.

Galatasaray host Copenhagen on October 23, 2013 in the UEFA Champions LeaguePreview: Gala looking for a strong performance against Danish Champions

After a 6-1 drubbing at the hands of Real Madrid on the opening day of the Champions League, Galatasaray made amends in their second match holding Italian champions Juventus to a 2-2 draw.
However their humiliating defeat at the hands of the Spanish giants resulted in their former manager Fatih Terim being relieved of his duties, who is replaced at the helm by former Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini. The Italian himself was unable to taste much success in the European arena with his former side and will want to make amends as he takes charge of his second European encounter as Galatasaray coach.

The Turkish giants have made a disappointing start to their league campaign and are currently sixth in the table having managed just three victories in the eight matches they have played so far. The defending Turkish champions earned their first victory in eight games when they defeated a 10 man Karabukspor side.

Wesley Sneijder scored an incredible brace in that match and was duly praised by the club president.

"Sneijder produced the type of performance [against Karabukspor] that we expected from him for the first time," Aysal said.

"Naturally, we have high expectations of him. We have waited for this for months."

Unal Aysal further ruled out rumours making the rounds that Sneijder was due to join his former manager Jose Mourinho at Chelsea

"Sneijder has a temporary problem, I don't care about it. He is going to regain his form with us." insisted the 72 year old

Despite being placed in a difficult group which consists of seasoned participants like Real Madrid and Juventus, manager Roberto Mancini has insisted that the group is still wide open and that the Turkish side have a good chance of advancing to the next round.

"With the point we took from Juventus the group has become more open and I believe that the group will be decided in the last group match against Juventus," he said at a press conference.

"Until that match I believe that we won't make many mistakes and we will stay alive until the last match. Of course we respect our opponents and first we have to win tomorrow and then we have to carry on in the other fixtures."

Copenhagen have had a difficult start to their season as well, but the Danish side has gained momentum winning three of their last four matches in the Danish Superliga.

Their antics have seen them climb to sixth position in the table and the defending Danish champions will surely be looking to continue their form on the European stage.

Copenhagen qualified for the illustrious tournament as a result of Turkish side Besiktas being kicked out of the tournament due to their involvement in a match fixing scandal. On Wednesday they will be looking to put another Turkish team down and considering Gala’s poor run of form, Copenhagen can surely fancy their chances against Mancini’s side.

The Danish side made a promising start to their European campaign by holding Juventus to a 1-1 draw but were given a beating by Real Madrid who defeated Ståle Solbakken’s side 4-0 in their last Champions League game.
