Many clubs are looking at Barcelona with envy and some are reportedly trying to copy the Catalans’ philosophy. Real Madrid seem to be one of those.
On Thursday, Real Madrid sporting director Jorge Valdano spoke to Cadena Ser on the programme ‘El Larguero’. He revealed that the club is weighing the option of replacing Jose Mourinho with a local man should the Portuguese quit the Santiago Bernabeu this summer.

Following this revelation by Valdano, MARCA.com conducted a poll which exposed Alberto Toril as the overall winner with more than 26 per cent of the votes ahead of Paco Jemez (16 per cent), Pepe Mel (13 per cent), current assistant coach Aitor Karanka (12 per cent), Chelsea boss Rafael Benitez (11 per cent) and Michel.

Toril is a 1993 Spanish Cup and Spanish Supercup winner with Real Madrid. In 2011, the 39-year-old was appointed as Real Madrid Castilla coach after the sack of Alejandro Menendez.

He made an instant impact, guiding his side to 11 victories out of 12 matches between January and March 2011. He eventually led Real Madrid Castilla to glory in the Segunda Division B last year. As of mid-February, Alberto Toril had managed 88 games, winning 49, drawing 19 and losing 20.

The speculation of Alberto Toril taking over at Real Madrid as the head coach is a hint that big money spending chief Florentino Perez wants to guide Los Blancos into a new direction similar to Barcelona’s. This could see the Spanish giants promote more youth players into the first team in order to rival La Masia, rejuvenate the current ageing squad and cut expenses on the market.

The timing of this news also coincides with the lamentation of Jese Rodriguez who spoke to Marca about his frustration at Real Madrid Castilla, stating:

“In the first team there are good players but a lot of them are not home-grown. I do not see why I have not been given a chance. What I will do is keep working, but I do not know. I hope the club knows I'm training hard; I'm sure they know, and they will consider me soon enough.”

Jose Mourinho has lived to see his 1,000th day at Real Madrid. He managed his 158th match on February 23 as Los Blancos staged a comeback vitory against Deportivo La Coruna at the Riazor in the league. “The great thing is not to win. The great thing is to win with Madrid,” the 'Only One' declared upon his arrival at the Santiago Bernabeu in 2010.

Since then, he has clinched the Copa del Rey (missing for 17 years in Real Madrid's cabinet), Spanish La Liga and Supercup titles. All that remains is the UEFA Champions League. If he does triumph in Europe this year, could Jese Rodriguez ‘soon enough’ prayer mean ‘this summer’?
