El Tri look set to add one more win to their record in the qualifiers against Los Ticos, who are in need of a victory here to keep their World Cup hopes intact.

The CONCACAF World Cup Qualifiers return to the legendary Azteca Stadium, this time with Mexico trying to build up on their win against Jamaica last Thursday. This time, the Mexican side will face some stiff competition in Costa Rica, a national team that are facing elimination from the World Cup in the eye due to their poor start of the Qualifying process.

These teams have already met once before in these qualifiers, with Mexico being able to escape Costa Rican soil with all the spoils to themselves. One more win for Mexico here could keep their World Cup hopes intact while also handing Los Ticos a definitive blow in their quest to book tickets for Qatar.

Mexico enter this game sitting in third place, one point behind the 2nd-placed USMNT and two behind first place Canada. With both of those teams set to face each other this Sunday, it would not be strange to see Mexico top the table once again in the event of a draw. While that might be easier said than done, the possible returns of Hirving Lozano and Raúl Jiménez could boost the team's chances of success and continue Mexico's path to the World Cup without barely any problems other than the ones they faced in November, when they were beaten by Canada and the USMNT.

Costa Rica will also enter this game after narrowly beating Panama in their quest to bounce back in the World Cup Qualifiers. Los Ticos have won two in a row after Thursday's game, which has helped them climb back up in the standings after only being able to win one of their first seven matches in the Qualifiers. Now, the Central American team seems to be in prime position to fight at least for the playoff spot with Panama, who are two points ahead of them in fourth place.

The team coached by Luis Fernando Suárez will rely on the experience of players such as Celso Borges, Bryan Ruiz (who scored the game-winning goal for Costa Rica against Panama), and Keylor Navas, who has already stated that Qatar 2022 would be his last competition with the Central American side.

Let's have a look at some of the key aspects of this game before its kickoff.
