An average of 1,315,000 viewers watched in the USA watched the USMNT take down their bitter rivals Mexico on ESPN2. Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic and Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie were the two scorers on the night. The USA has now won in their last three meetings against El Tri.
Spanish-language channel TUDN also screened the USA-Mexico Concacaf World Cup Qualifying game on Friday. The broadcast was the second most-watched game of the week, recording a 0.24 viewership rating for the 616,000 average viewers.
The third most-viewed soccer broadcast on U.S. TV was ABC's UEFA World Cup Qualifying game between Spain and Sweden. La Roja won the game at Estadio De La Cartuja in Seville 1-0 thanks to an Alvaro Morata goal in the 86th-minute. The goal inevitably qualified Spain for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
The FA Women's Super League also made an appearance on U.S. TV. A game between reigning champions Chelsea and league-strugglers Manchester City amassed 320,000 average viewers and received a 0.20 viewership rating. Chelsea won the game 4-0 at Manchester City Academy Stadium.
A game that caught the eye was the Concacaf World Cup Qualifying between Honduras and Panama on NBC's Universo. The Hondurans looked as if they were going to secure their second win of the competition after going up 2-0 in the 59th-minute, but the Panamanians rallied their way back into the game and scored three goals to win it 3-2. An average of 141,000 people watched the game.
