The gifted striker was on target as the Brazilians overwhelmed a difficult Universidad de Chile in Sao Paulo.
Santos were crowned South American Super Cup winners after defeating Universidad de Chile 2-0 at the Pacaembu stadium in Sao Paulo on Wednesday.

The trophy, which was contested by the winners of the 2011 Copa Libertadores, Santos, and the Copa Sudamericana winners of the same year, Universidad de Chile, was decided in Brazilian territory following a goalless draw between the sides when they met in Santiago, Chile, in August.

After much pressure, Neymar finally opened the scoring for Santos in the 27th minute, with a well-placed low shot following a neat one-two with strike-partner Andre.

The speedy Brazilian international played a key role for his side, and was at the centre of most of their best attacking moves.

He was provided with the opportunity to double Santos' lead on the stroke of half-time when he was brought down in the area by a Universidad de Chile defender for a penalty kick.

But, as was the case in the first leg in Santiago, Neymar failed to convert the spot-kick, with his tame effort being saved by Universidad de Chile goalkeeper Johnny Herrera.

Bruno Rodrigo doubled Santos' advantage in the 60th minute, when he connected to a free-kick with a nicely placed header that left a stranded Herrera with no chance whatsoever.

The superb Neymar, who tormented the visiting defence right throughout the game, was named the MVP of the match by the competition's official sponsor Santander.
