The top two teams in the CONCACAF World Cup Qualifiers lock horns in the final game of September's International Break. Follow this clash with our detailed guide.

One of the most heated rivalries in recent years will take center-stage this Wednesday as Mexico pays a visit to Panama in the third game of CONCACAF's Qualifiers. After two games, Mexico are first in the Final Round, followed closely by Panama with four points. Their numbers, overall form, and recent clashes give us hope to watch one of the most interesting games in this competition.

Panama get to this game after claiming a convincing win against Jamaica away from home. Coach Thomas Christiansen led Los Canaleros to a 3-0 win over the Reggae Boyz, which added to their goalless draw against Costa Rica has given them the second place in CONCACAF's Qualifiers. After two games, La Marea Roja has the best goal difference for all Final Round teams, with three goals scored and none allowed.

For this game, coach Christiansen might choose to use the same lineup as in the team's two games, mainly because he will have a full squad to choose from ahead of this game. Adalberto Carrasquilla was booked during the first game of the Final Round, which means he will have to be wary of getting one more if he wants to escape a one-match suspension.

On the other side of the pitch, Mexico will try to win their third game in a row during this Final Round, something they have never accomplished in any edition of the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. Coach Gerardo Martino -and his assistant Jorge Theiler, who was in charge during Mexico's last game- has led the team to narrow wins against Jamaica (2-1) and Costa Rica (1-0), giving Mexico the top spot in the group.

For this game, coach Martino and his assistant will have to use a different lineup than the one that triumphed against Costa Rica last Sunday, since winger Alexis Vega has been ruled out due to an injury and midfielder Edson Álvarez picked up a one-match ban after being booked in both games. After two disappointing performances as a starter, striker Rogelio Funes Mori could surrender his spot to Henry Martin, who has shown better understading with his teammates than the one showed by the Argentine-born footballer.

This will be the 23rd game between Panama and Mexico in all competitions. Mexico hold a commanding lead over Panama with 15 wins and five draws, while Los Canaleros have only beaten Mexico twice. Panama have never been able to beat Mexico in a World Cup Qualifying game, but El Tri's last two trips to Rommel Fernández Stadium have ended in a goalless draw. Either way, if Mexico win or if Panama take home the points, we could be in for a historic match.
