32 minutes into the match between Arsenal and Blackburn, Morten Gamst Pedersen scored a stunning goal. Arsenal had conceded an equalizer for what felt like the millionth time in living memory.
Arsenal’s poor form in recent matches ensured that everyone came into the match low on confidence. Four games had gone by with no wins. The match against Manchester United caused one of the most public humiliations of Arsene Wenger in recent years. The fans booed the coach they had stood by for many a barren season.

Wenger had really not committed any crime for the treatment he received. He just took off Alex Oxlade Chamberlain when Arsenal seemed to be the side more likely to grab a match-winner against United. As Chamberlain walked off the pitch and Andrei Arshavin came on, the Emirates seemed to be simmering. Arsenal eventually lost the game.

Following last week’s draw against Bolton, Wenger’s most reliable asset, the Arsenal share holders, refused to back him. Mikel Arteta was furious as well with the team and criticized his side immensely. Some of the problems went down the drain this weekend though.

Van Persie brought Arsenal back into the lead shortly after the equalizer from Pederson against Blackburn. Alex Oxlade Chamberlain then scored a third. Gael Givet was also given his marching orders for Blackburn. 3-1 up with an extra man- it was time for Arsenal to take out their frustrations on the opposition.

In the second half, Mikel Arteta, Chamberlain and Van Persie scored. The Arsenal captain set up Thierry Henry for a late seventh star. While Van Persie took all the plaudits for the match and rightfully so, one had to look at the impact of Chamberlain as well.

The Arsenal youngster showed again the immense potential that he is known to possess. He vindicated Wenger’s decision to sign him. Arsenal fans had only Van Persie to thank and cheer on in recent weeks. Now, they can cheer this young man on. He is an influential player and Arsene Wenger knows it.

In the 68th minute, as the substitution board came up, Chamberlain knew it was his time to go. As an Arsenal legend came on in the form of Thierry Henry, the Arsenal fans applauded. Perhaps, most of the applause was meant for their newest hero Alex Oxlade Chamberlain.

Arsene Wenger’s team has to fight for every point from now on. They have an awfully tough fixture list ahead of them with the likes of Liverpool, City, Chelsea, Everton and Newcastle still left to play. If the trio of Van Persie, Walcott and Chamberlain ticks again, expect Arsenal to fight their way to fourth.

Now the fans and Wenger know that if Van Persie does not tick on a particular day, they can always count on Alex Chamberlain.
