Suriname vs Mexico - Team news

Suriname enter this game as their final hope to reach a spot in the CONCACAF Gold Cup without going through the preliminary stages. The team from the Caribbean will make it to this clash having lost four of their last seven matches, with their other results being two wins and one draw. Former Dutch midfielder Aron Winter will try to put his experience to good use for this game, especially with the absence of some of his most seasoned footballers. Speaking of which, striker Gleofilo Vlijter could become the team's joint top scorer if he can find a way to beat Mexico's defense.

On the other hand, Mexico will try to pick up the pieces left by former coach Tata Martino after an embarrassing group stage exit in last year's World Cup. With coach Diego Cocca at the helm, fans can expect a number of changes in the team's lineup, starting with the absence of midfielder Andrés Guardado, Héctor Moreno, and Héctor Herrera, three of the most-capped players in El Tri's history. Another one of their legendary players, Guillermo Ochoa, will not be around to defend the net as he has only been considered to play for Mexico's national team on Sunday.

Suriname vs México - Standings prior to this match

Mexico get to this match in second place of Group A, but with the lowest number of games played in the group. A win here could pave the way for a first-place finish, mainly because their final match will take place next Sunday. As for the hosts, a win here is mandatory of they want to keep their options to escape the Gold Cup preliminaries alive, although it seems a bit complicated considering their last outing at home.
