FuboTV to provide OTT live streaming of qualifiers

FuboTV to provide exclusive streaming coverage of 2022 CONMEBOL WC Qualifiers

April 9, 2021 By Michelle Bonsu
The streaming service will be providing exclusive streaming overage of CONMEBOL 2022 World Cup qualifying matches starting from this June.

Exciting news for fans looking forward to following players like Neymar, Roberto Firmino, Lionel Messi, Paulo Dybala, Alexis Sanchez, James Rodriguez, and others as they look to lead their national teams to the 2022 World Cup.

FuboTV, the well-known American OTT (over-the-top) streaming provider, will be a source for exclusive live streaming coverage for all ten of South America's teams (CONMEBOL) who are hoping to book a spot at the next edition of the most famous quadrennial tournament in the world.

This partnership between FuboTV and all ten of the teams' rights holders grants FuboTV the authority to live-stream all 70 remaining matches, which will begin this upcoming June and will continue into the early months of 2022. The broadcasts will be shown in both English and Spanish, and in addition to live matches, will also include exclusive highlights such as special pre-match, post-match, and halftime shows as well as match replays.

Despite the devastating impact COVID-19 had, and still continues to have, on businesses worldwide, including for football's largest teams such as Manchester United, Manchester City, Inter, and others, FuboTV actually enjoyed a pretty successful 2020. In fact, the company reported an increase in revenue of over 80 percent to hit nearly $270 million, and impressively, a huge chunk of that ($105.1 million) was just in the fourth quarter of 2020 alone.

This massive surge in revenue, of course, was due to an influx of subscribers. With many more people stuck at home due to lockdowns and unable to go to the stadiums to watch their favorite teams live, fans then had to turn to alternative ways to catch their favorite players and teams in action. FuboTV saw an uptick in subscriber numbers of over 70 percent, with over half of those new additions taking place from June to December of 2020, and clearly, sporting organizations are looking to take advantage of that.
