For Arsenal’s fans, it’s sad but true. This season has been another one without cup glory for the Gunners and many negatives have come out of it. Has Wenger hurt the team with his strategies?
Throughout the years at Arsenal, Wenger has remained quite faithful to his youth policy and his philosophy on economic matters. Critics are even blaming his approach to the game of business as the game on the pitch is not resulting in cup glory for the Gunners. But Wenger doesn’t want to follow the trend of “buying trophies”.

The Frenchman has been clear on his ideology: Arsenal must build the future through the development of the youth. Jack Wilshere, for example, has emerged as a perfect product of Arsene Wenger’s system. But most Arsenal fans feel that the Gunners need more to get rid of the things that have denied them silverware since 2005.

Transfer signings, good ones—not disrespecting the transfers of Thomas Vermaelen, Arshavin, Chamakh and company. In general, that’s what Arsenal supporters have been dreaming about, but the reality seems to say something different.

Wenger admitted in the past to be “regretting” for having failed to take all his chances on signing big players such as Cristiano Ronaldo or Didier Drogba more than half-a-decade ago. Is it now too little too late to sign big stars—players that will complete Arsenal as a club more than ready enough to win silverware at last?

Excuses to Arsenal’s title failures have been the same; injuries but more importantly the lack of maturity of the players. Wouldn’t it appear normal for anyone to view Arsenal’s 2010/11 season as a total failure? For some, it perhaps won’t. Either way, the general opinion remains that Wenger MUST spend money on the transfer market in summer.

Actually, Arsenal fans aren’t asking the club to emulate billionaires Manchester City by buying an entire population of football stars. However, there are some concerns within the Gunners’ squad which definitely need to be tackled—from the issue of mentality and experience to the issue of top quality performances.

Defensive resources look to top the priority wish list of Arsenal’s anxious supporters. Fact: Arsenal have surpassed the 40-goal mark when it comes to goals allowed in the English Premier League only.

Will Arsene Wenger make of the summer transfer window another “boring” period? Will he satisfy the fans’ need or stick to his “low-profiled players” signings?

This weekend, Arsenal will end their domestic campaign with a match against Fulham and Champions League football next season is not even guaranteed. With Manchester City having the edge for the third and last automatic spot in the standings, it looks like the Gunners need to head in an all-new direction...
