TUDN had by far the strongest showing last week on American television when it came to the number of soccer game broadcasts and viewership. The Spanish language channel screened seven Liga MX Clausura matches, including the top three most-watched games of the week.
The game with the most views last week was Liga MX’s clash between Club America and Atletico San Luis on Saturday. The game started at the peak time for the West Coast (7 p.m. PST/10 p.m. ET) where most Liga MX fans reside in the U.S., drawing a crowd of 390,000 average viewers. The second most-watched game of the week was Liga MX Clausura’s opening game between Puebla and Chivas Guadalajara on Friday, which ended in a 1-all draw. The game received a 0.17 viewership rating after attracting a crowd of 373,000 average viewers. Last, but certainly not least, CONCACAF Champions League winners Tigres UANL defeated Liga MX Apertura champions Leon 2-0 on Saturday at 8 p.m. ET. The broadcast entertained an average of 309,000 viewers and earned a 0.15 rating.
TUDN was not the only channel screening Liga MX Clausura games last week, as two Fox Deportes games made it to the Showbuzzdaily's top 150 cable originals and network finals on two separate days. Santos Laguna’s 1-0 win over Cruz Azul nearly made the top three broadcasts of the week, missing out by just 2,000 average viewers. The game received a 0.10 viewership rating and kept an average of 307,000 tuned into the broadcast.
BeIN Sport Español gets the third nudge after three successful La Liga Santander broadcasts last week. All three screenings surpassed the 100,000 average viewer mark, something that beIN Sports struggles to do regularly. The game that attracted the largest crowd was Osasuna’s goalless home draw with Real Madrid on Saturday at 3 p.m. ET. The game rounded up 161,000 viewers and received a 0.06 viewership rating. One English language BeIN Sport broadcast of Barcelona’s 4-0 away win over Granada on Saturday made it to the Showbuzzdaily's top 150 cable originals and network finals. However, the broadcast attracted a mere 79,000 viewers – the lowest all week.
Lastly, one ESPN2 broadcast featuring last week’s Serie A game of the week – Milan 1-3 Juventus – reached 87,000 views.
