Chelsea flop Gonzalo Higuain refuses to leave Juventus

July 9, 2019 By Emmanuel K. Budu-Annor
The Argentina striker is adamant to move.

Serie A outfit Juventus is reportedly finding it difficult to offload striker Gonzalo Higuain. The 31-year-old forward who joined Chelsea on a six-month loan deal returned to the Turin club although claims suggest that he has no future at the club.

Having been bought to fix the Blues' shortcoming in the goalscoring department, Higuain's stint in the English Premier League was overly unimpressive. In his 14 appearances, the Argentina striker managed just five goals, a feat which obviously made it unlikely for the Stamford Bridge outfit to exercise its option to secure the player's service on a permanent basis.

With Juventus' attack endowed with much quality in Cristiano Ronaldo, Paulo Dybala and Mario Mandzukic, while Inter Milan's Mauro Icardi could potentially add up to the roster, the club is keen on finding a buyer for Higuain in order to lighten the burden on its wages. The attacker is currently on a £270,000-a-week salary and has two years left on his current contract.

A recent report by Italian news outlet Corriere dello Sport revealed that a host of Serie A clubs are keen on giving the former Napoli star a chance to rediscover his goalscoring form. AS Roma is believed to be leading the pack with its star forward Edin Dzeko possibly on his way to Inter Milan this summer.

However, Sky Italia has reported that Higuain is currently against the idea of negotiating a move away as he aims to impress his old boss Maurizio Sarri who moved to Juventus this summer. The Argentina striker has been called up to the Bianconeri training center as the team begins its preseason training.
