Former Manchester City captain Kolo Toure might be temporarily expelled from the football world, after an A sample he provided tested positive for a “specified substance”.
The Ivory Coast international is said to have absorbed the prohibited substance in his body following a decision to lose weight. He ostensibly took his wife’s pills, which unfortunately tied him to negative consequences.

“He is sad about this and what happened, but he took something and did not know what it contained,” asserted Valere Gouriso, one of Toure’s advisors. “He took pills to lose weight...

“He has used the pills that his wife used to lose weight. He tried them also to lose weight, and it turned there was a substance in them that was not good.”

The sad news reached the midfielder and the Citizens on Wednesday, before the Blues’ FA Cup meeting with Aston Villa. Going by the rules of the FA, Manchester City decided to drop him immediately from their squad; but unluckily, Toure could face a much longer period of inactivity. An official statement on the club’s official website read:

"Manchester City confirm that the FA has informed Kolo Toure that an 'A-sample' provided by him has tested positive for a specified substance. As result of this, he has been suspended from participating in all first-team and non-first-team matches pending the outcome of the legal process. There will be no further comment from the football club at this stage.”

As at now, the player is anticipated to miss all of his team’s matches until further details are brought to light. However, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has appeared to make Toure’s upcoming sentence even scarier, stating on their website:

"Generally speaking, 'specified substances' are substances that are more susceptible to a credible, non-doping explanation. The sanction under the World Anti-Doping Code can go from a warning to a two-year ban.”

Opportunely, Toure can get a bit of relief, in view of the fact that Hamilton midfielder Simon Mensing was only suspended for a month after testing positive for the stimulant methylhexaneamine—a substance also found dietary supplements. The one-time Arsenal ace has already lost his captain armband to team mate Carlos Tevez, as well as his place as a starter to Vincent Kompany. With further serious dilemmas seemingly on their way, Toure does not look likely to enjoy good moments in his career anytime soon.
